A video doorbell will tell you someone is at the door. Telling you it was a delivery, and that the package is still sitting there three hours later, is usually an extra that only works with that maker's doorbell.
Agent DVR records visitors on any camera that covers your door, porch or driveway. An AI assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini looks at the frames and tells you who came and what they did. You can also ask to be told when someone arrives carrying a package, and Agent DVR sets that up as a rule on your own server.
Alerts on your phone, wherever you are
An iSpyConnect subscription from $7.95 a month sends the alert to your phone as a push notification and lets you open the clip, watch the door live and ask the assistant about it from anywhere, in the iOS and Android apps. One flat price covers every camera, with no port forwarding to set up. Agent DVR itself is free on your home network, so you can set it up and try it before you pay.

Four recordings on the front door today. Looking at the frames:
- 08:12 - a courier in a hi-vis vest left a package by the door and photographed it.
- 12:40 - someone in a grey hoodie knocked, waited about 30 seconds and left. Nothing taken.
- 15:27 - the package is still there; a cat walked past.
- 17:05 - you picked up the package on your way in.
So one delivery, one visitor you didn't answer. Want a link to the 12:40 clip?
Things to ask
- Has my package arrived?
- Who came to the front door today? Show me.
- Is the package still on the doorstep?
- What time did the courier come?
- Send me a link to the clip of the delivery.
Rules to set up by asking
- Tell me if someone is carrying a package at the front door.
- Weekdays 9 to 5, tell me if a delivery van stops outside.
- If there is a package on the doorstep on Friday at 6pm, text me.
- When someone comes to the front door this afternoon, tell them to leave it behind the gate.
Rules run on your own server with no assistant connected. They need Agent DVR 8.0.7 or later, and questions about what is in the picture need an AI provider set up in Server Settings - AI Settings. More rule examples
Why build it this way
Works with any door camera
An existing security camera, a doorbell camera that offers an RTSP or ONVIF stream, or a webcam in a window. No need to replace what you have.
Knows a delivery from a passer-by
A rule can ask a vision AI whether the person at the door is carrying a package, so you hear about deliveries rather than everyone who walks past.
Ask after the fact
Missed the alert? Ask who came today and get each visit with a time, a description and a link to the clip.
Speak to the courier
With a camera that has a speaker, a rule can say a message when someone arrives, such as where to leave the package.
What you need
A camera
Almost any IP, ONVIF, RTSP or USB camera works, including a spare webcam. You do not need a special bird, pet or doorbell camera. Look yours up in the camera database.
Agent DVR on a computer
Install it on Windows, macOS, Linux, Docker or a Raspberry Pi. It records to your own disk and is free for private use on your own network. Download.
An AI assistant
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini CLI or any other MCP client and start asking. Free on your own network. From your phone or the cloud it is part of an iSpyConnect subscription from $7.95 a month. How it works.
Frequently asked questions
Can a security camera tell me when a package is delivered?
Yes. Tell a connected assistant "tell me if someone is carrying a package at the front door" and Agent DVR sets up a rule. When the camera detects motion or a person, your AI provider is asked whether they are carrying a package, and you are notified if the answer is yes.
Do I need a video doorbell?
No. Any camera that can see your door, porch or driveway works, including most IP cameras, ONVIF and RTSP cameras and USB webcams. Doorbell cameras that offer an RTSP or ONVIF stream work too.
Can it tell me if a package is still there or has been taken?
Ask "is the package still on the doorstep?" and the assistant takes a live snapshot and looks. It can also go back through the recordings and tell you who picked it up and when. A rule can check at a set time, such as Friday at 6pm, and message you depending on what the picture shows.
What does it cost?
Alerts on your phone, the mobile apps and access away from home are part of an iSpyConnect subscription from $7.95 a month, one flat price for all your cameras. Agent DVR itself is free for private use on your own network, so you can try everything at home first. The AI provider you use may have its own costs.
Does it work with my existing cameras?
Very likely. Agent DVR supports tens of thousands of camera models. Look yours up in the camera database.
More things your cameras can do
AI bird feeder camera
Point any camera at the feeder and ask which birds visited, when the feeder is busiest and whether the squirrel is back.
AI pet camera
Ask what the dog did while you were out, look in live from your phone, and get told when the cat is on the kitchen counter.
Barn and foaling camera
Watch the foaling box, calving pen or chicken coop from your phone, ask what happened overnight, and get an alert when something needs a look.
Ghost hunting cameras
Record every camera and microphone on an investigation, get flagged when it hears whispering, footsteps or a knock, and let an AI assistant find the moments worth a second look.
